The Nose Ring – More Than Just Jewelry

The Nose Ring – More Than Just Jewelry

Over the past couple of years, the nose ring has gained popularity. In fact, nose rings come second only to earrings when it comes to modern-day body-piercings. Although the nose ring may seem to some like a contemporary fashion statement, it actually dates back to traditions from centuries ago. While today, the nose ring is mostly considered a mere accessory, it holds many different symbolisms originated from different cultures. For some, the nose ring was a symbol for marital status. Nose rings were gifts of husbands to their wives on their wedding days.

For other cultures, the nose ring was a sign of wealth and opulence, a person born of high financial status. Some even believed that the nose ring had special powers that could address pain in different parts of the body, particularly for women. Wearing a nose ring, it was said, could diminish the burdens of menstruation and childbirth. The next time you see a nose ring therefore, or if you have a nose ring yourself, take some time to appreciate it for what it is. As a fashion statement and as a persisting piece of worldwide culture, there is more to a nose ring than just a simple piece of jewelry.
